Who is Rob?
Hi!, My name is Rob Taylor. I have been programming professionally since 1996 with the emergence of the dot-com craze. I worked for several companies during that expansion, both dot-coms and traditional software companies, developing online software for industry moguls such as KPMG, Franklin-Covey and NextPage (many which won awards). In 2001 I decided to go solo as a full-time contractor. I was able to land an open contract job with Certiport (certiport.com) as their lead architect; with a team of contract developers built simulated environments for testing and certification. I continued contracting with Certiport and other companies until recently in Jan 2009 when I decided to take up employment with one of those other companies, Legato Media (legatomedia.com). There I am leading the development for the company’s next generation of web services and online software.
What languages do I program in currently?
A lot of times that depends on the job. I tend to focus on web technologies. I have been developing in Adobe Flex and AIR for the past 2+ years for client side work and PHP, MySQL and Java for the server. Legato Media’s solutions are built in PHP and AJAX and so I am leveraging those platforms with Zend’s PHP Framework (framework.zend.com) and Amazon EC2 web servers.
I love developing in Eclipse and since the Flex Builder (Flex), Zend Studio (PHP) and Eclipse (Java) are all built on the Eclipse platform, I find developing with those technologies nice because the environment is similar.
Do you have any other expertise or interests?
Yeah, inside the industry, I have also extensively dealt with localization of applications. I also love studying and discussing Design Patterns with my friends. Outside of the industry, I love hanging out with my family and enjoying the outdoors.
